Welcome to the AFL Masters “Footy for Fun” brand of football, encouraging fitness and continued participation for players of all ages, skill level and experience.

The Game of AFL Masters (AFLM) Australian Football provides the opportunity for male and female players 35 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, supportive, family orientated and fun environment.
The Masters style of AFL football originated in Victoria in 1980 and is now played by over 260 teams throughout Australia. Each year a National Carnival is also held which provides the opportunity to players to represent their state in what is the largest AFL Carnival event in Australia.
AFLM has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and supported by the AFL and Sport Australia.
The sport is governed by the AFLM National Board and its’ nine-member State and Territory Associations.
You will find a welcoming atmosphere at AFLM clubs with an emphasis on family involvement and fun social interaction.
While a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the game fully, training runs once or twice a week without huge time commitments which means it’s flexible around family and work commitments.

CONCEPT OF AFL MASTERS
AFL Masters is designed to allow mature aged Australian Rules footballers the opportunity to participate safely in the great game of Australian Rules Football and to compete with their aged peers.
The opportunity to participate, to compete and to be physically active is the main motivation of the competitors.
Footy for Fun
Winning is not important and the game should be played in the spirit of ”Football for Fun”.
Social interaction is also a very important feature of AFL Masters for all participants.
Member Associations shall be responsible for the actions and behaviour of their officials players, supporters and administrators before, after & during all games, and at all official AFL Masters function, Tribunal hearings or meetings.

How do I join AFL Masters?
Easy! Just head over to the Find a Club section of our website, and get in touch with your local State Association, who will be able to put you in touch with the nearest AFLM team.
Are there any playing age requirements?
Generally, you need to be 35 years or older to play, but some local teams may allow younger players to participate in certain situations. To play in the National Carnival, players must be at least 35 years old.
Do you have any modified rules?
AFL Masters is modified slightly to promote enjoyment of the game and minimise injuries. The major modifications aim to reduce rough physical contact and increase the fun factor. More info on the rule modifications can be found on our What to Expect page and Laws of Play page.
What will it cost me to play?
Costs vary depending on your local team or association. Generally, there is a small registration fee, plus a match fee for game days, to help cover insurance and ground hire, equipment costs, and other incidental fees. The National Carnival requires players to pay a registration fee, and they may also need to purchase merchandise such as playing jumpers, shorts and socks for the carnival.
